Show your kids how folks lived before their Xbox took over. Living History Farms is a great location for a school field trip, or a weekend trip with family. Step back in time as you view home building, farming, and shopping similar to the way it was done in the pioneer days. What can I say, a must see for any local Iowan or a tourist! There is soooo much to see and do and it is sooo realistic. You can even book the town church and get married here if you like. I can remember coming here as a child and it was still as much fun 25 years later! There are three different farms, one for each century and you can really re-live an experience for that time period. There is also a futuristic area of what the future may bring for energy and agriculture...very educational and fun!!! They do themse from holidays, so check their website!!
PROS: Very realistic
CONS: outdoors, so winter isn't as good
Fun and educational.

Living History Farms is fun and educational. They have three working farms recreated from different time periods that show what farm life was like in Iowa. There are also actors who interact with the visitors and really draw in the kids. They're very friendly and manage to squeeze in educational facts while keeping everyone entertained. There are also fun activities everyone can do to get involved, like churning butter!
